To preserve their childhood friendship, fishermen Zurga and Nadir have sworn an oath that neither man would act on their feelings for the priestess Leïla. When Nadir breaks his promise – and Leïla reneges on her religious commitment to remain chaste – they are both arrested. In this duet Zurga, who still harbours a deep desire for Leïla, confronts her about her feelings for Nadir. As Leïla pleads for Nadir’s life, Zurga’s jealousy and anger intensify.

Count Walter’s son Rodolfo has fallen in love with Luisa, a girl from the village. Luisa’s father has been arrested after being involved in a violent altercation to protect his daughter. The villagers warn Luisa that he has been sentenced to death before Wurm, a courtier also in love with Luisa, arrives with the news that he can save Miller’s life. He offers to secure Miller’s freedom on the condition that Luisa writes a letter declaring her love for Wurm and denying that her feelings for Rodolfo were ever sincere.

Fernando has left his religious order after falling in love with Leonora. Unaware Leonora was the King’s favourite lover, Fernando asks him for her hand in marriage. Leonora’s message about her true identity does not reach Fernando until after their wedding. When he discovers their relationship, Fernando’s feelings of betrayal and dishonour cause him to abandon his new wife and return to his previous life of celibacy. Leonora arrives broken-hearted, desperate to tell Fernando the full truth and earn his forgiveness.

Rosina has fallen in love with Lindoro who she believes to be a student musician. Unbeknownst to her, Lindoro is really the wealthy Count Almaviva who had enlisted the local barber and jack-of-all trades Figaro to help him woo her. After the storm Almaviva and Figaro climb a ladder into Rosina’s home. Almaviva reveals his true identity and quickly marries Rosina before her guardian Dr Bartolo can.

Some years later, Count Almaviva’s marriage to Rosina – now the Countess – has started to lose its spark. Having invoked the ancient droit du seigneur which permits the Count to sleep with Figaro’s fiancée on her wedding night, the Count is expecting to meet Susanna in the courtyard for a tryst. Little does he know that Susanna and the Countess have switched clothes to play a trick on Rosina’s philandering husband and Susanna’s jealous fiancé. Chaos ensues but can love triumph in the end?

If you arrive late to the auditorium or leave during a performance, you will not be allowed back to your seat until the interval or a suitable break.
